Carl Rawson Autumn Oil Painting - Carl Rawson (American, 1884-1970). Oil on panel painting depicting birch trees in the fall. Signed along the lower right. Carl Rawson was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He studied art at Cumming Art School, the Minneapolis School of Art, and the National Academy of Design in New York. He made his home in Minneapolis in 1906 for a position as a cartoonist for the Minneapolis Tribune where he worked for nine years. After leaving the Tribune he made a living by painting portraits and then idyllic landscapes from the Hudson River to Minnesota. His favorite topic was the North Shore of Lake Superior, where he found scenes for his brush many times. Unframed; height: 15 in x width: 12 in. Framed; height: 19 1/2 in x width: 16 1/2 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. Condition: There are no visible breaks or losses. There are a few small areas of craquelure and minute chips, where the impasto is applied thickest. Light wear to the frame. Not inspected out of frame.
