Pre-Contact Inuit Yukon Jade Axe - Inuit Upper Yukon ax comprised of carved organic material lashed together with leather cords. The ax head set with a small piece of honed piece of polar jade. Identified by the Alaska General Store as being Pre Contact, circa 700 to 1700 BCE. Provenance: Purchased from the Alaska General Store, Anchorage, Alaska, 1987; Private Minnesota Collection. Length: 8 1/2 in x width: 3 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. Condition: Wear throughout commensurate with age, use, and material. Some breaks and losses to the blade. The hide strap is somewhat loose.
