William Long Clifton Art Pottery ”Poppies” Vase - William A. Long (American, 1844-1918) for Clifton Art Pottery, New Jersey. Earthenware vase depicting poppy flowers in relief with matte green glaze, 1906. Incised manufacturer's marks to underside; numbered ”177.” William A. Long, recognized for his notably nomadic career, played a formative role in several of the most prominent art pottery enterprises of his era. His professional trajectory began with the Lonhuda Pottery Company, continued through a significant association with Weller Pottery, and advanced with the founding (and eventual closure) of the Denver China and Pottery Company. He ultimately concluded his career with the establishment of Clifton Art Pottery. Height: 8 in x diameter: 5 in. Condition: There are no large cracks. There is a moderate chip to the footrim.
