Denver China & Pottery Co. ”Lonhuda” Tripod Vase - Denver China and Pottery Company, Colorado. Small and bulbous Arts & Crafts pottery ”Lonhuda” vase resting on tripod feet, ca. 1901. Depicting daisies along the shoulder. With unusual iridescent glaze. Marked along the underside. Lot Essay: Lonhuda Pottery Company was founded in 1892 in Steubenville by William A. Long, W.H. Hunter, and Alfred Day. The company ceased operations in 1896 after Long left the partnership to pursue other ventures, including producing the ”Lonhuda” line for Weller Pottery. This line was later renamed ”Louwelsa, ” after Samuel A. Weller's daughter. Long eventually departed from Weller as well and, in 1901, founded the Denver China and Pottery Company. Between 1901 and 1905, the company became known for its rare ”Denver Lonhuda” and ”Denaura” art pottery lines. Reflecting Long's notably peripatetic career, he went on to establish Clifton Art Pottery after the Denver China and Pottery Company enterprise ceased operations. Height: 4 in x diameter: 4 in.
