Arts & Crafts pottery molded pictorial relief tile depicting San Gabriel Mission, ca. 1911-1917. With matte green glaze. Marked ”Kaospar” along the verso. The California China Products Company (CCP Co.), based in San Diego, had a brief existence, operating only from 1911 to 1917. Despite its short lifespan, it is widely regarded as an early predecessor to several regional tile companies that achieved far greater success in the years that followed. Pieces produced by the California China Products Company were marked ”Kaospar, ” a portmanteau of ”kaolin” and ”feldspar.” Tile; height: 6 in x width: 6 in.
