Burmese Kammavaca Gilt & Red Lacquer Manuscript - Burmese Kammavaca gilt and red lacquer Pali manuscript, 19th century. Comprised of 16 palm leaves, each with red lacquer ground and profuse gilt lotus and scrollwork motifs. Fourteen leaves with six lines of black lacquer script along the recto and verso; two leaves with text along one side, the recto depicting an elaborate scene of several seated mediating figures. With a pair of wooden cover boards, lacquered in red and with gilt. Provenance: From the Distinguished Personal Collection of Dr. Robert Jacobsen. Height: 5 1/4 in x width: 22 1/4 in x depth: 1 1/4 in. Condition: Wear throughout commensurate with age including some wear and losses to the gilt and some light scuffs and small chips to extreme edges, particularly the corners of the covers. To one of the panels, there is a vertical crack in the lacquer that does not extend to the verso. There are light areas of splitting to the wood along both of the covers.
