Pair Chinese Song Burial Jars for Wine - Pair of Chinese burial jars for wine storage, Southern Song Dynasty, late 12th-13th century. Qingbai ware, porcelaneous stoneware with molded and applique decor under a light blue glaze. The lids surmounted by crane-form finials. With a wooden stand. Loan: Minneapolis Institute of Art, L.2004.1.1-2a.b.; Previous loan from 1990-1991, L.83.135.1-2a.b. Provenance: From the Distinguished Personal Collection of Dr. Robert Jacobsen. (Each vase, with lid) height: 35 in x diameter: 7 in. (Stand) height: 2 in x width: 21 1/4 in x depth: 7 in. Condition: Heavy wear throughout, as expected with age including crazing throughout, some losses to the glaze, and chips to the body of each vessel and lid, especially along high points. To one of the vases, there is a loss measuring approximately 1 1/2 inches along the footrim; there is also a repaired break to the footrim of the same vessel. Accretions and debris gathered throughout the recessed areas. One jar with a vertical 1/2” crack at the base. Both jars with a horizontal crack encircling the bottom. Adhesive residue, likely museum wax, along the rim and underside of the lids
