Pr Chinese Qing Pewter Shuangxi Altar Candlesticks - Pair of Chinese Qing pewter altar candlesticks or candle holders, ca. 20th century. With stylized stems in the form of the ”Double Happiness” symbol, or shuangxi. Each with an incised nine-character mark along the underside; one further marked in black ink along the underside. Provenance: By repute, purchased in China, ca. 1947-1950; thence by descent. (Each) Height: 18 1/2 in x width: 5 1/4 in x depth: 2 3/4 in. Condition: To each of the candlesticks, there are bends, particularly along the reticulated elements of the bases, to the larger bobeche cups, and to the carved stems. There are small chips and minute losses, primarily along the extreme edges of the bobeche cups. Some scratches and white accretions throughout. Light tarnishing. There is a possible restoration to the stake along one of the smaller bobeche cups. Some residual wax along the stakes and interiors of the smaller bobeche cups.
