4 Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Chicken Cups - Set of four Chinese famille rose porcelain chicken cups, Republic period, 20th century. Each cup depicting a boy, likely Jia Chang, with rooster amid a landscape populated by blooming floral forms. The reverse of each cup inscribed with a poem. With a six-character seal mark along the underside. Jia Chang (Chinese, 712-810), living during the Tang dynasty, was celebrated for his exceptional skill in training roosters for cockfighting. He is a frequently depicted subject in traditional Chinese porcelain, particularly on chicken cups, where he symbolizes discipline, mastery, and harmony with the natural world. Provenance: Private Minnesota Collection, acquired prior to 1970. (Cups, each) height: 2 1/4 in x diameter: 2 3/4 in. Condition: There is one fleabite chip to the rim of one cup. Hairline crack to one cup. Light wear to the box. Lacking the box lid.
