Chinese Quanyi Horseshoe-Back Ancestor Armchair - Chinese carved wood horseshoe-back quanyi ancestor armchair, Ming to Qing dynasty. The carved and gently tapering center splat depicting a stylized ruyi-head medallion, rising to meet a gracefully curved crest rail. Flanked by rounded arms of sinuous form. The rectangular seat is fitted with a woven cane panel, above a shaped apron depicting vining foliate motifs. The legs are joined by three linear stretchers; the front rail bearing a smooth and mellowed surface, reflecting use over time. Provenance: Kramer Gallery, Saint Paul, Minnesota, September 21, 1993; Private Minnesota Collection. Height: 39 in x width: 27 in x depth: 22 in. Condition: There are several large breaks, losses, and signs of past failed glue repairs to the stretchers, legs, feet, and seat frame. Some of the broken components are with the chair; however, there is a loss to the central vertical support bar of right arm. There is a scratch along the lower half of the back splat as well as some small scuffs along the extreme edges. Uneven wear to the stretcher along the front of the chair, commensurate with age and use.
