Lrg Chinese Soapstone Shou Lao Carving - 31 lbs - Large Chinese soapstone carving depicting a male figure, likely Shou Lao, the Daoist deity of longevity, standing atop a rocky outcrop. Height: 18 3/4 in x width: 12 1/4 in x depth: 3 3/4 in. Weight: 31 lbs. Condition: There is a large crack to the rock element along the figure's right side; the crack is primarily along the verso of the rock and extends downward from the top of the structure approximately 6 inches. There is a crack to the rounded element behind the figure, particularly to the right of the figure's head. There are additional cracks to the stone throughout, which may be natural or potentially result of breakage and repair. There are small chips and losses, primarily along the extreme edges of the figure's clothing, to the rock elements, and along the underside. There is a loss along the verso of the apex of the wooden element in the figure's right hand. There is a repaired break to two of the figure's right toes. There are possible signs of repair throughout, particularly to the rock element along the figure's right side and to the wooden element in the figure's right hand; these areas fluoresce under UV light and correspond to possible cracks, small chips, and losses. There are small scattered scuffs, scratches, and white accretions throughout. There are small felt tabs affixed along the underside.
