Chinese Qing Famille Rose Enamel Snuff Bottle - Chinese Qing dynasty famille rose enameled copper snuff bottle. With two cartouches along either side of the body depicting two scholars amid a garden landscape, surrounded by vining foliate motifs on pink ground between lotus borders. Of oviform shape, rising toward a narrow neck and domed stopper. With printed paper label affixed to the underside of the bottle reading, ”08.08.025.” Provenance: By repute, Ex. Sotheby's; Private Minnesota Collection. Reference: Hugh Moss, ”Snuff Bottles of China, ” Bibelot: London, 1971, pg. 121, plate no. 267. Height: 2 1/2 in x width: 1 1/4 in x depth: 1/2 in. Condition: The cap is not original to the snuff bottle. There are some small losses to the enamel, particularly along the faces of the figures as well as to the blue lotus border. There are some light scratches along the cartouches. There are minute areas of verdigris patination along the inner rim of the lid. There are signs of restoration along the rim that fluoresce under UV light. Light tarnishing to the metal components.
