Chinese Letter Opener Mounted w/ Jade Belt Hook - Chinese letter opener mounted with jade belt hook depicting an old and young dragon. The motif suggests the phrase ”canglong jiaozi” conveying the wish for an official position to pass from one generation to the next. For an emperor it would have conveyed the wish that the crown prince would follow in his footsteps. Provenance: By repute, purchased in China, ca. 1947-1950; thence by descent. Length: 10 1/2 in x width: 1 1/4 in. Condition: There is a minute chip along the right shoulder of the crawling dragon; there is an additional possible chip to the front right heel. Dust gathered along the recessed areas. Tarnishing to the letter opener blade and handle.
