Accordion portfolio or concertina book of stone tablet or stele ink rubbings depicting calligraphy inscriptions, Qing dynasty. Renowned Chinese calligrapher and loyal governor of the Tang Dynasty, Yan Zhenqing's artistic accomplishments parallel those of the greatest Chinese calligraphers. His distinctive “Yan style” emphasizes strength and boldness. While Zhenqing's original calligraphy works date to the Tang Dynasty, antiquarian studies were a pillar of Chinese scholarship during the Qing Dynasty, and resulted in the widespread production and collection of rubbings. These rubbings are regarded as faithful reproductions of ancient engravings depicting inscriptions, imagery, and decorative motifs which hold important historical information. Height: 15 3/4 in x width: 10 3/4 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. Condition: The pages and covers are toned. There are signs of moisture exposure and soiling, particularly to the covers. There are small tears along the covers. To some of the pages, there are small creases, primarily along the margins. Wear to the extreme edges.
