Early Meissen Beaker Vase ca. 1721 - Meissen, Germany. Early and rare porcelain beaker vase, ca. 1721, the mouth probably painted by Kohler in underglaze blue. The enamel decoration likely of a later date. The body decorated with a Kakiemon style turquoise tiger creeping around flowering bamboo snarled at by a blue beast. With a bird flying above and a peony below. Underglaze blue kite mark. Provenance: Sotheby's, London, October 9, 1984, Lot 208; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 12 1/2 in x diameter: 5 1/2 in. Condition: There are no cracks or signs of restoration. Light wear to the pigment, including minute losses visible only upon close inspection. There are fleabite to small sized chips along the footrim.
