Meissen Augustus Rex Tankard ca. 1850 - Meissen, Germany. A gilt-metal mounted porcelain tankard with cover, ca. 1850. With a portrait of Augustus Rex and Indianische Blumen. The cover with the crown and crests of Saxony and Poland. Blue crossed swords mark and incised BI44 along the underside. Provenance: Philip Suval, Inc., New York, NY, September 14, 1976; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 7 in x width: 6 in x diameter: 4 in. Condition: The lid has been repaired and restored; there is a large repaired crack along through the center of the lid. The entire lid fluoresces under UV light. Tarnishing to the metal components. Heavy wear and losses to the gilt along the finial and handle. Light wear to the underside.
