Meissen Floral & Insect Plate ca. 1725 - Meissen, Germany. Porcelain plate, ca. 1725. Decorated in underglaze blue with a central flowerhead surrounded by colored scrolling foliage, the well with a band of green with flowerheads, a blue trellis pattern border enclosing red and puce flowers reserved with four panels of insects enriched with gilt. Provenance: Christie's, London ”The Nyffeler Collection of German Porcelain”, June 9, 1986, Lot 162; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Diameter: 8 3/4 in. Condition: Along the rim, there are two very thin hairline cracks and a few fleabite chips, all only noticeable upon very close inspection. Light wear to the gilt and pigment, including minute losses. A few light scratches. Along the footrim, there are two small chips.
