47 Pc Meissen Neo-rococo Part Dinner Service - Meissen, Germany. 47 piece Neo-rococo part dinner service, ca. second half of the 19th century. Blue crossed swords mark. Decorated with floral sprays; the pierced basketweave borders alternate with rocaille cartouches. Crowned lion herald throughout. Comprising: Two oval tureens with covers and stands and porcelain ladles. Two pedestal cake stands or tazzas. One serving dish. Basketweave border plates, twelve large and twelve side plates. Nine cups and nine saucers. Three additional saucers. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Smaller pedestal stand) Height: 5 1/2 in x diameter: 9 1/4 in. (Larger pedestal stand) Height: 5 3/4 in x diameter: 9 1/2 in. (Teacups, each) Height: 2 in x width: 4 3/4 in x diameter: 3 3/4 in. (Tureens, each) Height: 6 in x width: 10 1/2 in x depth: 7 1/2 in. Condition: To the lunch and dessert plates, as well as to the pedestals, there are light and minute scattered areas along the reticulated borders that fluoresce under UV light, as well as very light and minute fleabite chips, visible upon close inspection, along the inner edges of the pierced regions. To one of the dessert plates, there is a large chip along the rim and a corresponding hairline crack, extending towards the center of the plate. To a second dessert plate, there is a large chip and corresponding repair along the rim. There are signs of restoration to both strawberry-form finials along the tureens; one finial with a large loss to one leaf, both finials with fleabite chips along the extreme edges of the foliate elements. There are signs of repair where the platters are affixed to the pedestal stands. Both spoons with a large chip along the rim of the bowl. Light wear to the gilt along the edges of the saucers and teacups. Light wear to the footrims.
