Set 6 Crown Derby No. 770 Teacups & Saucers - Crown Derby, England. Set six porcelain teacups and saucers, pattern 770, ca. 1820. Twelve pieces total. Decorated with a bacchanalian design of a gilt chalice overflowing with polychrome scrollwork in orange, mauve, sienna, gray, blue, and gilt. Surrounded above and below with a Greek key border in orange and gray. Each marked with crown mark and pattern number in pink. Reference: John Twitchett, ”Derby Porcelain, 1748-1848: An Illustrated Guide, ” pg. 283, no. 159. (Teacups, each) height: 2 1/2 in x width: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 2 1/2 in. (Saucers, each) diameter: 5 1/2 in. Condition: To the cups, there are no cracks. To three of the cups, there are scattered signs of possible restoration, specifically areas of glaze that fluoresce under UV light. To one of the teacups, there is a repaired break along the lower portion of the handle. To one of the cups, there are small chips along the interior of the cup; possibly firing flaws. To a few of the cups, there are fleabite chips along the extreme edges of the handles. To the plates, there are no cracks or signs of repair. To a few plates, there are a few minute areas that fluoresce under UV light; possibly indicating signs of restoration. Light wear to the footrims. There are scattered losses to the gilt and glaze, particularly along the rims. Scattered, small rounded firing flaws. Surface wear to the plates.
