4 English Dog Figurines ca. 1780-1850 - Group of four English porcelain dog figurines including: A Staffordshire type model of a recumbent King Charles spaniel with black spots on a green and gilt base, ca. 1835-50. A Rockingham type model of a seated pug dog with a gilt collar on a green base, ca. 1830. A Derby pottery model of a pug dug on a scrollwork base, ca. 1830. An English group of two dogs with a hare, ca. 1780. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Reference: Similar pug and spaniel models illustrated in Dennis G. Rice, ”Dogs in English Porcelain, ” Antique Collectors' Club: England, 2002, p. 26-27, 95. Height ranges from 2 in to 2 3/4 in; width ranges from 2 in to 4 1/4 in; depth ranges from 1 1/2 in to 2 1/4 in. Condition: To the spotted dog laying on a grass base: There are a few hairline cracks, including a crack along the base, measuring approximately 1 inch. Another crack stretching from the tail to the hind leg. There is a small chip along the base, though this may be a firing flaw. Some wear to the gilt and pigment. Some wear to the underside. To the pug with a gilt collar on a green base: There are no cracks or losses. There are a few fleabite chips, only noticeable upon touch. Light wear to the gilt and pigment. Light wear to the underside. To the pug on a scroll base: Small loss to one of the ears. Light wear to the gilt and pigment. Light wear to the underside To the group of two dogs w/ hare: There is a repaired crack along the black spotted dog's front right leg. To the dog's hind right leg, there is a small firing flaw. There is small loss to the tip of the snout, that has been painted over. There are restoration to both of the black spotted dog's ears. To the orange spotted dog, the left ear has been restored. There are a few fleabite to small sized chips, particularly along the ears and paws. There is a small linear firing flaw along the lower portion of the rabbit. Some wear to the underside, including a small chip.
