Meissen Lion & Lioness Models ca. 1750 - Meissen, Germany. Pair of porcelain outside-decorated models of a lion and lioness, ca. 1750. With cancelled blue crossed swords mark. Modelled recumbent in mirror form. Painted later in brown and yellow with fur markings. Provenance: Christie's, London, ”The Nyffeler Collection of German Porcelain, ” June 9, 1986, Lot 99. (Lion) Height: 5 3/4 in x width: 8 1/2 in x depth: 4 1/2 in. (Lioness) Height: 5 1/2 in x width: 8 1/2 in x depth: 4 in. Condition: There are signs of restoration to the lion's hind leg, tail, and right foreleg as well as to the lioness' right foreleg and right fang. There are some fleabite and small chips along the highpoints of the claws, teeth, and tongues.
