Pr Meissen Sphinxes w/ Bacchus Pedestals - Meissen, Germany. Pair of sphinxes on pedestals with a pair of Meissen pedestals. The sphinxes modelled recumbent on rectangular plinth bases, ca. 1745. With a pair of Bacchus motif pedestals designed by Johann Friedrich Eberlein, ca. 1860s. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Sphinxes, each) Height: 3 1/4 in x width: 2 1/2 in x depth: 1 1/2 in. (Bases, each) Height: 4 3/4 in x width: 3 3/4 in x depth: 2 3/4 in. Condition: There are no cracks. There are no signs of restoration to the sphinxes. To one of the sphinxes, there is a small chip to the nose and crown. To the other sphinx, there are fleabite chips along the chin, noticeable only upon close inspection. To the bases, there are small chips to the applied foliate and fruit elements. To one of the bases, there is a loss to one leaf. To the other base, there is small repaired break to the tip of one leaf. Very light wear to the undersides, including a few fleabite chips along the undersides of the sphinxes.
