Meissen Gardener Children Group ca. 1750 - Meissen, Germany. Modelled by J.J. Kandler. A figural group depicting four gardner children, ca. 1750. The central figure holding a basket of flowers flanked by three others: one holding a basket of grapes and a knife, one holding two basket of grapes, and one holding another basket of flowers. All standing on a scroll base. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 9 in x width: 6 in x depth: 5 in. Condition: There are chips and losses along high points, particularly to the toes and to the applied foliate elements. There are signs of restoration and repaired breaks to the following: to the basket carried by the girl in the red dress, along the handle; to the left foot and basket held by the boy in teal; to the boy's jacket; to the flowers in the hair of the highest figure; to some small flower elements throughout. Additionally, there is a crack to one of the protruding legs of the base (the one with the boy in purple plaid) that extends from the base approximately 1 1/2 inches upwards. Light wear to the gilt, especially along the extreme lower edge of the repaired leg.
