Meissen Alexander the Great Figure ca. 1760 - Meissen, Germany. After a model by J.J. Kandler. Porcelain figure of Alexander the Great, ca. 1760. From the series of Four Monarchies. Modelled with Cerberus at his side standing on a rococo base. Provenance: Christie's, New York, NY, ”European Porcelain and Pottery, ” November 29, 1979, Lot 381; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 8 in x width: 4 in x depth: 3 1/4 in. Condition: There are extensive restorations to the upper, right half of the figure's body, particularly to the entirety of the neck and head, including the hat, to the right portion of the chest plate, and the right arm, including the shoulder and hand. There are additional restorations to the vertical elements along the skirt and to the left toes. There is a small loss to one of the vertical elements along the skirt. There are a few fleabite chips, particularly along the dogs' ears and the extreme edges of the garments. There is a small diagonal crack along the back, right side of the purple cloak. Along the back of the cloak, there are a few small firing flaws, primarily along the left side. There are a few small losses to the glaze. Light wear to the underside, including fleabite chips.
