Pr Derby Bocage Shepherd Figures ca. 1770 - Derby, England. Pair of porcelain bocage figures of a shepherd and shepherdess, ca. 1770. Patch marks to the underside. He depicted with a basket of fruit and a loyal dog seated at his feet; she with an apron filled with flowers and a lamb. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Man) Height: 9 1/2 in x width: 5 1/4 in x depth: 4 1/2 in. (Woman) Height: 9 3/4 in x width: 5 1/4 in x depth: 3 1/2 in. Condition: (Woman) There are cracks, repaired breaks, and signs of restoration that are visible under UV light, including a narrow U-shaped crack along to the lower edge of the verso, rising toward the foliate groups along the left and right sides, as well as repairs and restorations to the right hand and upper right arm. There are additional chips, losses, and signs of repair to the applied floral and foliate elements; there is a fleabite chip along the extreme edge of the woman's gown, draped from the grasp of her right hand. There is a chip to the recumbent lamb's right ear. Areas of crazing throughout. (Man). There are repaired breaks and signs of restoration that fluoresce under UV light to the man's neck, hat, and right side of his cloak. There are chips, ranging from small to large in size, as well as some losses, to the floral and foliate elements rising from the base, the feathers along the man's hat, the fingers, and the contents of the basket at the man's left side. Light wear to the gilt along the bases of the each figure.
