Pr French Regence Provincial Beechwood Chairs - Pair of French Regence provincial limed beechwood dining chairs or side chaises, 18th century. Each with a shield-shaped back surmounted by carved floral cresting, blue and cream upholstery featuring foliate motifs, and cabriole legs terminating in pointed feet. Provenance: Old Versailles Inc., New York, 1974; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Each) Height: 34 1/4 in x width: 20 in x depth: 20 in. Condition: The chairs are structurally sound and stable. To one of the chairs, there is a crack along the upper, right side of the back, right leg. To the other chair, there is a crack along the top rail. There is a possible crack that extends diagonally from one of the joints of the rear legs. To each of the chairs, there are scattered splits to the wooden frames. There are small chips and light scratches, commensurate with age and use. To the carved foliate elements, there are fleabite to small-sized chips and losses, noticeable upon close inspection. There are no losses to the upholstery. To one chair, the upholstery along the seat back has begun to slightly pull away from the frame. Wear to the feet, including small chips and scratches.
