8 French Louis XVI Wooden Balloon Chairs - Set of eight French Louis XVI carved wooden painted balloon dining chairs, 19th century. Each with a pierced vasiform splat and caned seat. Atop reeded, tapered legs. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Each) Height: 36 1/4 in x width: 19 in x depth: 15 1/4 in. Condition: The majority of the chairs are structurally sound and stable; two of the chairs wobble slightly. To two of the chairs, there are breaks to the caning along the extreme edges of the woven seats. One of the chairs lacks an upholstered seat cushion. Along the top rails, particularly where the spindles meet the top rail, there are small losses, cracks, or splits forming in the wood. Separation to the joints throughout. Wear and losses to the pigment, especially along the seats and top rails. A few of the upholstered cushions with light stains. Light fraying along the tassels. One of the chairs lacks two nails along the back of the seat. Light scuffs and scratches throughout, particularly to the legs and feet.
