Steinway & Sons Model A Baby Grand Piano 1905 - Steinway & Sons, New York. Model A mahogany baby grand piano, 1905. Mounted with gilt-bronze neoclassical forms and roundels applied to the body, resting on square tapering legs with acanthus-cast ormolu mounts. With model and serial no. 117992 stamped along the interior; manufacturer's plaque along the name board. Further marked ”Steinway and Sons” and ”Overstrung Scale” along the plate. Together with an upholstered piano bench. Provenance: Christie's, New York, NY, June 19, 1984, Lot 287; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Piano) Height: 40 in x width: 56 in x depth: 74 in. Condition: The piano, originally a pneumatic player, has been converted with the player mechanism removed. The tuning pins exhibit good torque, and the pedals operate smoothly. The hammers and damper felts appear newer, and the strings may also have been replaced. The hammers move with slight resistance, which could indicate a need for lubrication or potentially warrant re-pinning.There are several severe splits and cracks forming along the sound board, including separation to the ribs. Several of the larger splits have been repaired with adhesive and wooden shims; replacement of the soundboard is recommended. The music desk glide requires repair. Light wear to the piano bench. Please note that we are not professional piano technicians or experts and we recommend you consult with a piano technician or tuner who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Additionally, we strongly encourage bidders to inspect this lot prior to purchase
