Louis XV Giltwood & Verde Marble Console Table - French early Louis XV giltwood console table with a serpentine variegated verde antico green marble top, mid-18th century. Featuring a shaped frieze with pierced scrollwork elements flanking a central, carved military trophy. Atop scrolled legs decorated with acanthus, joined by a stretcher centered by a shell. Provenance: Sotheby's, New York, ”French and Continental Furniture, Decorations and Clocks, ” December 17, 1986, Lot 118; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 30 1/2 in x width: 46 in x depth: 24 in. Condition: To the marble top, there are no cracks. There are natural fissures in the marble. There are fleabite to moderate chips and losses, particularly along the extreme edges. A few rounded accretions and light scratches along the surface. To the wooden frame, there is separation to the joints. Some small chips and losses, primarily along high points and to the carved elements. There are losses to the gilt, primarily along high points and the extreme edges. There are scattered cracks and splits forming in the wood, including a vertical crack along the right side of the console's rim, the crack extends downward to the right leg of the console; there is moderate loss along the underside of the rim along the rightmost side of the right leg. Heavy wear to the back board, including splits and losses. The back board of the console table apprears to have been reinforced with an additional piece of wood along the right side. Dust gathered along recessed areas.
