Pr George II Giltwood & Marble Console Tables - Pair of English George II carved giltwood console tables with later Breche d'Alep marble slab tops, ca. 18th century. Surmounted by beige and rouge (red) veined marble tops above a pierced and carved apron cresting with a central carved female mask, flanked by S-scrolls. With later lighting elements installed beneath the top of each. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (Each) Height: 35 1/2 in x width: 42 3/4 in x depth: 22 1/2 in. Condition: To the marble table tops, there are no cracks. There are natural fissures in the marble; to one of the marble tops, there is a large natural fissure along the right side, resembling a crack, however it appears to be naturally formed. There are small to moderate chips and losses the extreme edges. Some scratches along the surfaces. To the wooden frames, there is separation to the joints. There are small to moderate chips and losses, including boreholes, primarily along high points, along the rims, and to the carved elements. There are losses to the gilt and pigment, especially along high points and the extreme edges. There are scattered cracks and splits forming in the wood; to one of the tables, there is a rounded crack along the underside of the central figure's chin. Heavy wear to the back boards, including splits, losses, and boreholes. The frames have been mounted with later lighting elements and newer wooden beams for wall-mounting. Electrical component not tested for functionality.
