Louis XVI Occasional Walnut Side Table ca. 1835 - Louis XVI occasional marquetry and parquetry walnut side table, circa 1835. The oval top decorated with floral and musical instrument marquetry designs. The apron is richly decorated with inlaid floral and geometric motifs. A single drawer is integrated into the apron, featuring a brass ormolu keyhole. Standing on four square legs joined together by an oval-shaped shelf with geometric parquetry designs. Provenance: South Audley Art Galleries, London, 1972; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 29 in x width: 19 in x depth: 13 1/2 in. Condition: The table wobbles slightly when weight is applied. The back, right leg has become unattached from the side of the table; it rests in place, however, it is not secure. There are losses and cracks particularly to the decorative trim along the upper and lower surfaces. There is a crack along the lower portion of the front, left leg. There are scattered horizontal and vertical splits to the wood. There is some separation to the joints. Wear to the table top, including scuffs and scratches to the inlay. There are a few possibly repairs to the inlay along the table's surface. The central drawer and writing pad along the right side stick slightly when being opened and closed. There is a possible break to the interior mechanism of the writing pad, as it is able to be fully pulled out and removed from the table. Light wear to the leather surface of the writing pad. Scuffs and scratches throughout. Wear to the legs and feet commensurate with age and use, including scratches and small chips.
