Pr Manner Thomas Johnson George II Gilt Girandoles - Manner of Thomas Johnson (British, 1723-1799). Pair of George II Chinoiserie carved giltwood mirrored girandoles, etageres, or wall niches, ca. 1765. Featuring shaped mirrored sides with tiered shelves supported by faux branch arms and decorated with elaborate acanthus-carved aprons. Each with a mythical avian form perched along the top rail. Provenance: French & Company, Inc., New York, 1965; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Condition: There are some breaks, chips, and losses along the high points of the carvings. Wear and some losses to the gilt. There are areas of desilvering to each mirror. There are no major cracks to the mirrors. Some wear to the versos of each mirror; there are some chips and small losses along the extreme edges. Tarnishing to metal components.
