19th c. Italian Islamic-Style Faience Stool - Italian faience Islamic-style maiolica pottery stool, 19th century. The ottoman seat in the form of three layered cushions, densely decorated with roundels of stylized floral forms. Executed in yellows, blues, and iron red. With applied hanging tassels along each corner of each tier. Provenance: The Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Wrightsman; Earle D. Vandekar, New York, NY, May 7, 1987; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 16 in x width: 21 3/4 in x depth: 19 in. Condition: The stool is structurally sound and stable. There are small to large chips and losses, particularly along the extreme edges of the stool. There are repairs between the second and third layers of the stool, specfically the recessed areas appear to have been filled in with an adhesive material. Wear to the pigment, including small losses, particularly along the corners. Wear to the tassels commensurate with age and use, including small losses.
