Japanese Porcelain-Mounted Gilt Lacquered Tray - Japanese porcelain mounted and parcel-gilt lacquered tray, ca. late 19th century; with a later stand. The rounded oval tray with a full gallery enclosing sixteen assorted porcelain medallions, some formed as cranes. The stand with square legs and hoof feet. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 19 1/4 in x width: 31 1/4 in x depth: 16 in. Condition: The stand wobbles slightly when weight is applied. There are no signs of restoration to the porcelain medallions. Some of the medallions with fleabite to small-sized chips along the extreme edges, losses to the glaze and gilt, and small firing flaws. Along the side of the wooden tray, there are a few cracks and areas of flaking to the pigment. Along the upper and lower rims of the tray, there are small to moderate chips and losses. Along the underside of the tray, there is a curved crack. There are no losses to the wooden stand. A few small splits forming in the wood along the stand. There is crazing to the pigment. Light wear to the legs and feet, including small scuffs and scratches.
