14th/15th c. French Gothic Carved Limestone Head - French Gothic carved limestone head of a crowned figure with a beard and long, curled hair, ca. 14th-15th century. Depicting a king or apostle. Atop a stained wooden base. Provenance: Christie's, New York, NY, ”The C. Ruxton & Audrey B. Love Collection: Important European Furniture, Antiquities & Asian Works of Art, ” October 20, 2004, Lot 374; The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. (With stand) Height: 11 in. (Without stand) Height: 6 in x width: 4 1/2 in x depth: 4 in. Condition: Trace polychrome remaining. Small to medium sized breaks throughout, especially to the crown, hair, and beard. Loss to the nose. Rubbing or loss to finer details, especially hair and the face. Mounted to a metal stand with two screws in the back of the head.
