Ancient Iranian Persian Glazed Ceramic Oil Lamp - Ancient Iranian or Persian ceramic oil lamp. With an elongated stem and rounded handle, executed in light blue or green glaze. The rounded saucer-shaped base would have caught any oil spilled from the surmounted cup, and the pinched spout would have securely held the wick in place. Similar in style to archaeological artifacts excavated from Nishapur in eastern Iran, 10th-13th century. Provenance: The Distinguished Collection of Leo & Doris Hodroff. Height: 3 1/2 in x diameter: 3 in. Condition: The following areas fluoresce under UV light and may indicate repairs: the spout, an area long the back of the upper rim near the handle, the handle, nearly the entirety of the base, and the lower area of the stem. Repaired breaks/cracks along the stem and the handle. Crazing to the glaze.
