Attr. Charles-Andre van Loo ”Candle” Oil Painting - Attributed to Charles-Andre ”Carle” van Loo (French, 1705-1765) after Godfried Schalcken (Dutch, 1643-1706). Oil on canvas painting titled ”A Boy Blowing on a Firebrand to Light a Candle, ” 1692-1698. Depicting a young boy blowing on a piece of burning wood to light a candle. Frame with an inscribed name plate ”Carle Van Loo 1705-1765” along the lower edge. Partial ink inscribed label affixed along the verso reading ”2 Candlesticks”; two ink inscribed labels affixed along the verso ”54” and ”Carlos van Loo.” Unframed; height: 13 1/2 in x width: 11 in. Framed; height: 19 in x width: 17 in x depth: 2 1/2 in. Condition: The varnish is toned. There is craquelure. There are two small tears to the canvas along the left side of the stretchers, not visible when framed. Light wear to the frame, including small losses to the gesso and gilt, particularly along the extreme edges. Work inspected out of frame.
