Attr. Johannes Bogman Continental Painting - Attributed to Johannes Mattheus Bogman (Dutch, 1822-1872). Continental School oil on board genre scene painting, late 19th century. Depicting a fish market scene of a young woman approached by a soldier, perhaps her husband. Faintly signed in red pigment along the lower right quadrant. With a residual Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery label affixed along the verso. Unframed; height: 12 1/4 in x width: 9 1/4 in. Framed; height: 15 3/4 in x width: 12 3/4 in x depth: 2 in. Condition: The board is warped, particularly along the extreme right and left edges, and is not flush with the frame. There are a few light scratches corresponding to minute losses to the pigment. There is craquelure, primarily visible along the upper third of the work. There are scattered areas of inpainting, primarily along the upper third of the work and along the man's clothing. There are small losses to the board along the extreme edges of the wood; there are additional losses to the board along the verso that are not visible along the recto. Wear to the frame, including losses to the carved decorative elements. One residual paper label affixed along the verso. Not inspected out of frame.
