Continental School Pastoral Landscape Painting - Continental School oil on canvas pastoral landscape painting, 19th century. Featuring two brown cows and a female figure in the mid-ground with a serene waterway and mountains in the background. Possibly pencil signed and dated along the verso of the lower stretcher bar; however, the inscription is illegible. Unframed; height: 11 in x width: 9 1/2 in. Framed; height: 16 3/4 in x width: 15 1/4 in x depth: 2 1/2 in. Condition: There are small losses to the pigment, particularly along the upper left quadrant. There is craquelure. The canvas is uneven. There are areas of inpainting along the trees, particularly to the leaves of the tree along the right side of the work. The canvas has been relined. The verso is toned. Wear to the frame, including small chips and losses along the extreme edges. Not inspected out of frame.
