After Dali ”Slave Market with Voltaire” Lithograph - After Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989). Lithograph print on paper after Dali's oil painting titled ”Slave Market with the Disappearing Bust of Voltaire.” Pencil signed ”Dali” and numbered 165/300 along the lower margin. Depicting merchants standing in a slave market, whose figures create the illusion of a sculpture bust of the philosopher Voltaire. On the left, Dali's wife, Gala, watches the scene leaning on a red-covered table. The image juxtaposes a slave market with the apparition of Voltaire's bust, inviting viewers to consider contradictions between enlightened ideals and human oppression. Reference: Field 248.
