Lowell Nesbitt ”Nocturnal Parrot Tulip” Painting - Lowell Nesbitt (American, 1933-1993). Oil on canvas painting titled ”Nocturnal Parrot Tulip, ” 1981. Depicting a dramatic, stylized tulip flower in shades of blue and purple against a black ground. Signed, titled, dated, and painted ”New York” along the verso. Nesbitt served as the official artist for NASA during the Apollo 9 and Apollo 13 space missions. However, his most celebrated and noted artworks are his series of more than four hundred floral paintings rendered is realistic form. In honor of Nesbitt's work the United States Postal Service issued four stamps based on his floral paintings in 1980. Height: 20 in x width: 20 in x depth: 1 1/2 in.
