Dewey Seid ”Fifth Eye” Abstract Painting 1969 - Dewey (Dui) Seid (American, b. 1945). Large three-dimensional op-art painting titled ”The Fifth Eye, ” 1969. The painting featuring an abstracted geometric composition composed of a white square that projects outward from the canvas as vibrant, multi-colored vertical lines bend around the three-dimensional element creating a dynamic sense of movement. With associated art including an artist photo, article, and design schematics. Signed ”Dui Seid, 1969-2013” along the verso. Provenance: By repute, purchased from the estate of Jack Edwards, a personal friend of the artist; Private Minnesota Collection. Born in Mississippi in 1945, artist Dewey ”Dui” Seid graduated from Cooper Union in New York City before spending several years living in Paris. Upon returning to New York in 1980, the devastating loss of a friend to AIDS in 1984 inspired him to take action, balancing concurrent roles as a nurse and an artist to fight the systemic neglect of patient care. His professional art career launched with a debut solo exhibition at New York's SOHO Gallery in 1986, paving the way for international showcases at prestigious venues across the United States, Europe, Japan, and Canada. Some light scuffs throughout.
