Israel - ”Palmach 3rd Battalion Yiftach” Medal 1949 - War of Independence - This medal was awarded to the fighters of the Palmach 3rd Battalion – Yiftach, as a token of appreciation and commemoration for their role in Israel’s War of Independence. The battalion was one of the most distinguished Palmach units and took part in several major operations across northern and central Israel, including Operation Yiftach, Operation Dani, Operation Safed, Operation Lod and Operation Yoav. Obverse: The Palmach emblem – a sword with three wheat stalks – and below it the inscription “Palmach 3rd Battalion Yiftach.” At the top appears the Hebrew year 5709 (1949). Reverse: Lists of the operations in which the battalion participated: “Operation Yiftach / Safed / Operation Dani / Lod / Operation Yoav / Beit Hanun, ” with olive branch decorations between the lines.
