Israel - ”Independence Day 5709” 1949 - For the Soldier Medal - A commemorative medal issued in 1949 (5709) by the “For the Soldier” Organization, marking the first Independence Day of the State of Israel. The medal was presented to soldiers and supporters as a token of appreciation and remains one of the earliest items celebrating Israel’s independence. Obverse: Relief map of the Land of Israel, including Transjordan, surrounded by the Hebrew inscription “Yom Ha’atzmaut 5709” (Independence Day 1949). Reverse: An upright sword with a Star of David at its center, flanked by olive branches. Across the sword are banners inscribed in Hebrew “Lema’an Ha’Chayal” (For the Soldier).
