Palestine - Pair of Basketball Medals, Haifa 1943 - A rare pair of basketball medals from Haifa, dated 1943, from the British Mandate period. Both medals share the same design - one in bronze, the other silver-plated - commemorating one of the earliest organized basketball competitions in the Land of Israel. Right Medal (Silvered) Metal: Silvered bronze Diameter: 30 mm Weight: 11.670 g Obverse: Relief depicting two basketball players in action - one making a shot toward a hoop on the right, set within a tall metal frame. Reverse: Inscription “חיפה - HAIFA - حيفا” in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, with the date “1943 (5703)” below. Left Medal (Bronze) Metal: Bronze Diameter: 30 mm Weight: 11.695 g Obverse: Identical design - basketball players in mid-game. Reverse: Same trilingual inscription and date. These medals represent an important early chapter in the history of basketball in pre-state Israel, produced during a period when the sport was developing under Jewish, British, and local clubs.
