Judaica / Zionism - USA, Pair of Tokens B’nai B’rith Home & Hospital for the Aged, Memphis, Tennessee 1937, 1952 - Pair of commemorative round tokens - one in bronze and one in silvered nickel - issued for anniversaries of the B’nai B’rith Home & Hospital for the Aged, Memphis, Tennessee. The bronze token marks the Tenth Anniversary (1927-1937), while the silvered one celebrates the Silver Jubilee (1927-1952). Obverse: Both depict the façade of the institution building with the inscriptions: ”B’NAI B’RITH HOME FOR AGED MEMPHIS, TENN.” (1937) and ”B’NAI B’RITH HOME & HOSPITAL FOR THE AGED MEMPHIS, TENN.” (1952). Reverse: Shows a seven-branched menorah, three Stars of David, and the inscriptions: ”GOOD LUCK PIECE”, and the biblical verse from Psalms 71: ”CAST US NOT AWAY IN OUR OLD AGE” (Hebrew: ”אל תשליכנו לעת זקנה”). These pieces commemorate B’nai B’rith’s dedication to Jewish communal care and benevolence in the American South during the first half of the 20th century.
