Judaica / Zionism - USA, Two Medals of Rabbi Jacob Joseph School - New York, 1928 - Two commemorative medals issued by the Rabbi Jacob Joseph High School in New York City, marking the laying of the cornerstone for its new building at 163 Henry Street, on December 2, 1928. Obverse: Depicts the Tablets of the Ten Commandments inscribed in Hebrew, surrounded by the legend: ”YESHIVATH RABBI JACOB JOSEPH, NEW YORK” (in Hebrew). Reverse: English inscription reads: ”TO COMMEMORATE THE LAYING OF THE CORNER STONE DEC. 2, 1928 HIGH SCHOOL OF RABBI JACOB JOSEPH SCHOOL 163 HENRY ST. N.Y.C.” The medals were issued in two variants - one in bronze and one in gilt bronze - to celebrate a landmark moment in the development of Jewish religious education in America.
