Judaica / Zionism - USA, 50th Anniversary Medal of Temple Ohabei Shalom - 1893 - A rare and historically important brass commemorative medal issued in 1893 to mark the 50th anniversary of Temple Ohabei Shalom, one of the earliest Jewish congregations in the United States. At the center is a Star of David with the initials T.O.S inside. The inscription reads: “Souvenir Fiftieth Anniversary of Temple Ohabei Shalom 1843-1893.” Below appears the touching phrase: “God spare me to celebrate the centennial.” This medal beautifully reflects the pride, faith, and continuity of the Jewish-American community at the end of the 19th century.
