Another collector has claimed the existence of two additional pieces, so even after nearly 80 years since it was struck, the total number of known examples can still be counted on one hand. While most prototype coins remain within the mint and reach collectors through obscure means, this piece is exceptionally rare – a prototype that actually entered circulation and functioned as legal tender. The obverse features a distinct and heavier die engraving, clearly different from the regular issue (as shown in the comparison image). This is truly one of the rarest and most remarkable coins of Israel, a once-in-a-decade opportunity for advanced collectors. We know of 2 known units of this coin, another collector claimed that there are 2 more in addition to the 2 we know of, so even after almost 80 years since its minting, it is not necessary to count on more than one hand how many known units of this type are there... After the establishment of the state in 1948, and until 1952, the mill (and the pound of Eretz Israel) served as legal tender. The only coin minted in the State of Israel was 25 mils. Front: ”25 mil” with 2 stylish olive branches. Back: Painted and inscribed: ”Israel” and painted a grape cluster. Of this coin, 42,650 units were minted in Jerusalem under the security of the Irgun Haetzel against British rule. On September 6, 1950, the currency ceased to be used as legal tender. In 1952, with the transition from the Israeli mil to the Israeli pound, the name of the mill was changed to a Pruta.
