Palestine – Anglo-Palestine Company – 1904 Check Signed by A. Antebi – Very Rare - An early and important check issued by the Anglo-Palestine Company, the first Jewish bank established in the Land of Israel and the predecessor of Bank Leumi le-Israel. Dated 1904, this check bears the name and signature of A. Antebi, one of the most prominent merchants in Jaffa during the early 20th century and a key figure in the city’s commercial life. This example belongs to the second series of checks issued by the bank, following its official opening in 1903, and represents one of the earliest surviving documents of Jewish banking activity in the region. Such early checks are exceptionally difficult to obtain, particularly from this foundational period when the Anglo-Palestine Company operated a single branch in Jaffa. A historically significant and highly desirable piece illustrating the emergence of modern Jewish finance in pre-state Palestine.
